In honor of Women’s History Month, we will be featuring local female owned, or co-owned, breweries all month.
Meet Amanda, co-owner at Werk Force Brewing Co., an experimental brewery and tap room located in Plainfield, IL. Werk Force “strives to produce unique batches created by outside-of-the-box thinking.”
Amanda recently had twins, is raising a toddler AND running a brewery. We love to see it! We wanted to dive into her experience as a woman in the beer industry and learn more about her challenges, advice, and beer goals in our TOB Q&A:
What’s your favorite thing about the beer industry?
The community. We have to remind ourselves not to take the Chicago/Illinois beer community for granted. Not all cities/states are like us – we support each other, we push each other to be stronger and we simply just get along.
Do you have any advice for women interested in the industry?
Stand your ground and know your worth. There are no “roles” that are gender specific – our industry is in a good place right now and can only get stronger with more women. As in any aspect of life, if you feel the passion for something use that passion to excel your personal potential in any job/hobby/project you do.
Let’s talk beer goals. Dream collab? Brewery expansion?
A new project for us at the brewery will be debuting this month – The Barrel Den is a new space for us to celebrate community. I’m super excited about this new expansion – The Barrel Den will be home to many barrel projects, beer release parties, community beer dinners, and private events. Another goal of mine is the resurgence of our Kombucha program – this has been a popular offering of ours in the past and I would love for it to regain its momentum here at Werk Force.
What does life look like outside of the brewery?
Life just got a little busier outside the brewery – our family grew by TWO! You’ll find us at the brewery quite often but when we’re not working or hanging in the tap room my husband Brandon, our daughter Mabel and newest additions, Waylon and Wyatt, love the outdoors, being together with family and friends, and traveling to the Northwoods or out west.
